Dear friends,

Ever since 2005, our annual R&R (Rachis and Rehabilitation) meeting has been the evidence-based benchmark in Italy for the rehabilitation management of spinal pathologies. In line with the continuous innovation that has always characterized our organization, in 2016 ISICO made the R&R meeting available online as well, to encourage and facilitate broader participation. Then, in 2017, we turned “global”, making the online meeting international and offering simultaneous translation in different languages. As a logical consequence of this development, we have now changed the name of the event, calling it S&R (Spine and Rehabilitation).

S&R, like R&R before it, combines the traditional (evidence-based) scientific approach with new developments in research; it has an international scope and may now be beamed into the homes of thousands of professionals the world over:

- Online meeting: 100 "fortunate" participants will be present at the conference venue, while hundreds of others will be able to participate directly online, both listening to the presentations in the conference hall and putting questions directly to the speakers; simultaneous translation in different languages will be provided, and this year's audience will be even broader and more international than ever.

- The lectures will be given by the presidents of the most important international scientific societies in our sector: Tom Oxland, President of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS), will present a report on the biomechanics of the spine. Walter Frontera, President of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) will talk about the aging of the spine. Albert Todd, President of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), will discuss lumbar degeneration related to spinal deformity. Luke Stikeleather, President of the Society on Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT), will speak about growth-guided correction through bracing.. Finally, Nicola Heneghan, Delegate of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT) and of the International Federation of Manual Physical Therapy (IFOMPT), will speak about exercises at the thoracic level of the spine.

- The ISICO experts will be holding a thematic course on the rehabilitation approach to chronic low back pain patients, examining in depth all the basic aspects and then discussing antalgic physiotherapy and bio-psycho-social rehabilitation approaches.

As usual, the event is sure to be an interesting educational opportunity as well as, for everyone, an opportunity for professional growth.

We look forward to seeing you at ISICO S&R 2019!
